Sarasota Sheriff updates the public on the child that accidentally shot himself, after finding a firearm in the home

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to conduct an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred Sunday in the 3000 block of McCloud Circle in Sarasota.

 

Investigation revealed two male children, ages 11 and 12, were playing at the residence when they discovered a firearm. There was an accidental discharge from the firearm which caused a bullet to enter and exit the 11-year-old child’s cheek. The child was bayflighted to Tampa General Hospital. He has not yet been released but is doing OK and expected to recover.

 

At this time, detectives are still working to determine who the firearm belongs to and is asking anyone with information to contact the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section at 941.861.4900.

 

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
