Pine View is in a state of heightened security for this weekends graduation, after a student made some inappropriate social media comments
This text was sent out to the parents of Pineview students and was sent to me, out of concern regarding the threat.
Good evening. This is Pine View Principal, Dr. Covert, with a special message for parents regarding safety and security.
There was a report made to administration recently regarding a student making inappropriate comments and threats. In an overabundance of caution, we treat every comment and concern seriously and want to reassure parents and students that these comments are being thoroughly investigated. At this time, we want to reassure all parents that students and school activities are safe and continuing as planned.
This Sunday we will celebrate our senior graduation at the Van Wezel. There will be an increased police and security presence at the event. The student of concern has opted not to attend the graduation ceremony and will not be on campus for the remainder of the school year. We have been in constant communication with the student’s parents, and they are aware of our school community’s concern and have collaborated with us to provide a plan of action that ensures the safety and security of our student body.
We want to take a moment to thank the students who came forward out of concern and notified the administration about the comments. This is a perfect example of how important it is to follow the – “if you see something, say something” guideline, and students should know that there is always a faculty, staff member, guidance counselor, SRO or administrator available to share concerns with at any time.
