North Port Commissioner Emrich clarifies what will and will not be open at the aquatic center
To be clear, it’s the water park side at the aquatic Center complex that will be shut down Nov. 1 possibly through April 1 because of the cooler weather and anticipated low attendance during those months.
However it will be open during the local school’s spring break (March 12-20) and the commission is talking about possibly opening it earlier than April if it’s a mild winter.
BUT, the 25-meter pool is heated and can accommodate 25-yard or 25-meter laps swimming and competitions, and will be OPEN everyday but Wednesday’s when it is closed for maintenance (through March).
That means the pool is open for business on weekends 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and daily.
Parks staff is working on new programming, events like movie night at the pool, and sharing the facility with schools, (possibly water polo leagues, etc.) and colleges.
There is a widespread misconception that the entire center and concessions will be down through April and it’s not true.
at this time there are still some moving parts so things are subject to change but the pool will be open after the grand opening and stay open year round.
